About PTDF Scholarship 

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources established by law for the purpose of developing and promoting petroleum technology and for creating the human resource needs of the oil and gas industry through research and training of Nigerians.

 

The Oversea Scholarship Scheme (OSS) was instituted by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund as a short-term measure to address identified skills gaps, pending the outcome of the various capacity building efforts being made to enable our domestic universities to effectively handle the task of grooming professionals in oil and gas-related disciplines.

As such, the Fund reserves the right to allocate prospective applicants to scholarships institution and field/programmes targeted at filling those gaps.

Furthermore with the numerous upgrade programmes executed by the Fund in some Federal Universities in Nigeria; emphasis has shifted to training Nigerians in-country. Consequently, only a limited number of candidates will be sponsored overseas and the rest in Nigerian Universities.

To ensure a steadfast implementation of this mandate, PTDF is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for:

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), the Federal Government agency with the mandate of developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the Overseas Postgraduate Scholarships to specific programmes at selected Institutions in the United Kingdom, Germany and France.

Successful candidates will be awarded scholarships to study in these countries, commencing in the 2020/2021 academic session.

Under this scheme, candidates are invited to apply through PTDF to specific programmes at the partner institutions in any of the countries (full list of sponsored courses is available below).

The award includes the provision of flight tickets, payment of health insurance, payment of tuition and bench fees (where applicable) as well as the provision of allowances to meet the costs of accommodation and living expenses. The programmes will also include language classes to aid scholars to settle into their new environments.

PTDF Scholarship Application Forms

PTDF Scholarship Application forms can be accessed online using an ATM (Interswitch, Master & Visa) card or through the purchase of a scratch card from designated main branches of First Bank of Nigeria Plc in all the 36 States and FCT, upon payment of a NON-REFUNDABLE sum of N1,000 (One Thousand Naira Only). Instructions on how to access the form online are clearly stated on the backside of the cards.

Applicants may please note that only those who meet the requirements below shall be shortlisted and invited for a Computer-Based Aptitude Test, with MSc applicants, while oral interviews will be conducted for PhD applicants (full time and Split-site) on dates to be announced later. Following the aptitude tests and interviews, successful candidates will be selected and awarded the PTDF Scholarship.

Applicants may please note that only those who meet the requirements below shall be shortlisted and invited for a Computer-Based Aptitude Test, with MSc applicants, while oral interviews will be conducted for PhD applicants (full time and Split-site) on dates to be announced later. PTDF Scholarship Requirements

PTDF scholarships are highly competitive, and only candidates who are outstanding across the board are selected. A selection committee will be made up to assess applications using the following criteria;

1. Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts, other professional qualifications acquired, and relevant publications to be referenced by the applicant (PhD applicants only)

2. Membership of professional bodies

3. The viability of the study/research plan.

4. Applicants are required to make a case for their scholarship by submitting a statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) they want to undertake the study, the relevance of the proposed study to the industry and its expected impact on national development.

PTDF Oversea Scholarship Application

Applicants for OSS must be in possession of:

1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)(USA)

2. R.E (Graduate Record Examination) (USA)

3. GMAT–for Management related courses (USA)

4. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (UK)

PTDF Masters Scholarships

The Scheme

1. Under this scheme, candidates are invited to apply through PTDF to specific programmes at the partner institutions in any of the countries (full list of sponsored courses is available below).

Eligibility for PTDF Local Scholarships 

PTDF scholarships are highly competitive, and only candidates who are outstanding across the board are selected. A selection committee will be made up to assess applications using the following criteria:

1. Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts, other professional qualifications acquired, and relevant publications (where available) to be referenced by applicants

2. Awards for leadership and/or academic excellence (where available).

3. Membership of professional bodies

4. The viability of the study/research plan.

5. Applicants are required to make a case for their scholarship by submitting a statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) they want to undertake the study, the relevance of the proposed study to the oil & gas industry and its expected impact on national development.

PTDF Postgraduate Scholarships Requirements

1. A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field OR a 2.2 with oil and gas industry experience;

2. National Youth Service (NYSC) certificate;

3. Applicants must be computer literate;

4. Possession of O/level with Credit in the English Language; (At least C6 in WAEC/SSCE or C4 and above in NECO); and

5. Applicants must not be above 30 years of age.

PTDF PhD Scholarships 

1. A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field OR a 2.2 with oil and gas industry experience;

2. National Youth Service (NYSC) certificate;

3. Applicants must be computer literate;

4. Possession of O/level with Credit in the English Language; (At least C6 in WAEC/SSCE or C4 and above in NECO); and

5. Employment in the academics in reputable Nigerian institutions, teaching oil and gas related disciplines;

6. A minimum of 2.2 in their first degree and a minimum of merit as a second-degree certificate in an oil and gas-related discipline;

7. Submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology relevance to the industry and mode of data collection;

8. Possess a valid admission letter; and

9. Must not be over 40 years of age

Documents to Scan and Attach to the Application Form

Applicants are advised to scan the following documents and attach them to their online application forms:

1. First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result;

2. NYSC discharge certificate;

3. WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO Results;

4. 2 Recent Passport Photographs;

5. Local Government Identification Letter;

6. Masters’ Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only); and

7. Admission Letter (PhD Applicants).
